Hi, I’m Mimi

Choosing a therapist is a meaningful decision. While the true sense of “fit” unfolds in conversation, I hope this offers a fuller picture of who I am and how I work.

My Journey

My path into counseling began more than twenty years ago when I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Brigham Young University. What began as academic curiosity became a lifelong fascination with relationships — how our early experiences shape us, how attachment patterns form, and how healing happens within connection.

Over time, this curiosity grew into something deeper. Being a therapist feels less like a career and more like a calling — work I approach with genuine passion, care, and reverence for the complexity of human lives.

During the years I devoted to raising a family, I continued studying human development, trauma, identity, and relational dynamics. My husband and I came from very different backgrounds, and navigating the strengths and challenges of our shared life deepened both my compassion and my curiosity.

After walking through a particularly difficult season of my own, I recognized something steady within me — even in pain, I had not lost my desire to move toward light. That experience clarified my calling to formally pursue graduate training and sit with others in their own seasons of darkness and growth.

Life is complex. It can wound us, shape us, and stretch us. It can also refine and deepen us in ways we may not initially see.

Education & Professional Training

I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University (CACREP-accredited, the highest standard in counseling education) and am fully professionally licensed.

My work is grounded in a humanistic, psychodynamic, and attachment-based framework, with training in:

• Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)
• Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT & EFIT)
• The Gottman Method (Level 2 Certified)
• Prepare/Enrich Facilitation
• Expressive Arts Therapy

While insight is important, meaningful change often requires more than conversation alone. I integrate experiential techniques — including somatic processing, empty-chair work, and expressive interventions — when appropriate, helping clients move from understanding their patterns to transforming them.

Working with couples brings me particular joy and fulfillment. There is something deeply meaningful about helping two people rediscover connection, repair old wounds, and create a relationship that feels more secure, alive, and supportive.

I also feel honored to help individuals find freedom from past trauma, limiting beliefs, and long-standing patterns that keep them feeling stuck or disconnected from the life they long to live.

Although my Christian faith is foundational to who I am personally, I deeply respect and honor the diverse beliefs, backgrounds, and worldviews of those I serve. Therapy is your space. My role is to meet you with steadiness, curiosity, and care.

What It’s Like to Work With Me

Clients and colleagues often describe my approach as thoughtful, connected, and gently transformative. I strive to create a space where you feel both cherished and challenged — deeply supported, yet invited to grow.

By nature I am someone who is deeply attuned to others. I tend to notice subtle emotional cues, relational dynamics, and underlying patterns that may not always be visible on the surface. This sensitivity helps me sit with people in a way that feels attentive, grounded, and deeply present.

At the same time, I believe therapy should feel human. While we often explore meaningful and sometimes painful parts of life, there is also room for warmth, humor, and moments of lightness along the way.

“Mimi has a way of making me feel cherished and heard while also inspiring me to look deeply inward. She has a unique ability to empathetically and gently sit with people through pain, yet she knows just when to pertinently apply her contagious sense of humor and genuine positivity.”
— E.B.

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Mimi for over five years as a friend and colleague. Not only is she knowledgeable and insightful, but she is also gifted with an ability to connect with others in a very personal and intimate way. Her desire to help and support her clients is unmatched.”
— T.S.

“Mimi is a kind, compassionate, and supportive therapist. Her authentic desire to help her clients creates the perfect non-judgmental atmosphere every client needs. Mimi made me feel heard and seen during a time that I needed it most.”
— J.H.

Outside the Therapy Room

When I am not seeing clients, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our four children, and our rescue dog, Nacho.

Some of my favorite forms of self-care include spending time with friends, bargain hunting, exploring the outdoors, reading, learning new things, simple woodworking, drawing, watching TV with my family, and having authentic conversations with the people I love.

I feel incredibly blessed to do this work. I get the honor of stepping into the intricate inner worlds of many different people and witnessing the courage it takes to grow, heal, and move toward greater freedom and clarity.

Meet Doug: A Small Companion in the Room

You may notice a sloth named Doug resting on the sofa in my office. He serves as a gentle reminder — for both of us — to slow down, breathe, and approach our work with care and intention.

Therapy often involves tender places. Doug adds a touch of lightness when things feel heavy and occasionally becomes a quiet support for clients who find comfort in having something steady to hold.

Even small details in the room are chosen with thoughtfulness. This is a space where we move at a pace that honors your nervous system, your story, and your growth.
